Moving away from music for a while, I just have to say: I love Solange. If Solange hadn’t partnered up with Hynes for this, who knows if she could have achieved the sound/theme of 80s beats quite like these so that was definitely a great move. On this EP, Solange decided to work with musical whizz: Dev Hynes. This musical partnership will no doubt go down in history as one of the greatest, perhaps even rivalling that of Ja Rule and Ashanti…. you don’t have a physical copy to look at and appreciate.

This is something which is lost on those who download i.e. I love when artists take the time to make the CD version of their releases look good. In all, I love that Solange is bringing the 80s vibe back.Īfter only having Losing You on my iPod for a while and playing it an innumerable amount of times, I decided to venture out and get myself a CD copy of it. The TRUE EP is filled with many different emotions, namely: love and anguish. Solange shows us through both slow and fast catchy 80’s beats, how hard being in love can be. Remaining in the lane that she has created for herself seems to suit Solange just fine and it will work out better for her as she continues to build and create who she is as an artist. As I’ve said before in earlier posts, comparisons of artists often leave the one being compared ‘falling short’ of people’s expectations and this can be detrimental to any artist. I can’t see Solange being a mainstream success but then again, I wouldn’t want her to be because she’d always be compared to her sister. What I love about Solange is that she is just doing her she’s making music that she enjoys and it seems quite a few people enjoy it too. When listening to this, it is clear that Solange seems to feel comfortable in herself, in terms of her musical style. The TRUE EP has one of the most chilled out vibes of any collective music project I’ve heard.
